Hello everyone! Thanks for dropping in on the journal page. As usual, it has been next to forever since I kept up my writing in here, but there's been a lot going on in my personal and professional life...all of it good, but it's kept me very busy. The biggest news is that, after 16 years in Los Angeles, I'm relocating to West Palm Beach, Florida; specifically a town just north of there called Jupiter. My daugther has lived there for many years, and it's the time in our lives for me to move closer to her and be more active in her day to day life. Many of you who have come to see me play solo gigs or my various other endeavors have most likely seen my daughter at one or two of these events. She was the cute little girl with the jackhammer headphones on (to protect those little ears). She's even been a guest background singer on an acoustic show or two! Although we have such a close relationship now and see each other quite a bit, it's time to be closer physically. Nuff said!!

So what's a musician to do in Florida beside work on his tan and die a death of Jimmy Buffet gigs?? Well, I'm continuing my love of music education by starting my own music school called Absolute Music Studios, which will be giving private music lessons and band workshops in Jupiter, Florida. This is a very exciting opportunity to 'give back' to many people the knowledge and love I have for music. You can check out all the information on the school by going to www.absolutemusicstudios.com . It's going to be a really fun place to jam, meet other players and learn an awful lot about how to be a great musician. Definitely check out the website and start to get jealous that you don't live in beautiful Jupiter!!!

So what does that all mean with my performance career? Cosmosquad? Solo work? Well, certainly for the next six months at least, all of my efforts will be in building up the school. It's a new challenge that I'm very excited to rise up to. Frankly, I've accomplished so much with my playing career...so much more than I ever could have dreamed. The last two years in particular have absolutely been the best and most enjoyable of my life. I've done a few really fun tours, put out my first live DVD (with Cosmosquad), been featured in Bass Player magazine ads, wrote music for television, written a book, recorded with some incredible artists, conducted clinics across the US and abroad and even turned down some major paying gigs because, even though the money was BIG, I was more concerned with doing things that I was truly passionate about. I purged myself of work that was physically and emotionally draining and did work that I knew would be truly meaningful.

At this point, I can see what I'll be doing for the next several years and, honestly, that kind of bores me. I've been playing and touring and recording for 16 years straight, and it's time to see if I can start something new! To see if I can truly merge the joy of learning music with the business of running a school that exudes that joy. Also, if you stay in Los Angeles long enough, you realize you are not living in the real world. Time to get real, my friends.

As for my solo work, I've been unable to truly continue much of it after the promotion of "Terrors". I've been so busy working with other artists, doing my clinics, writing for other avenues and other such business that I've had no time to continue with my own music. As I get Absolute Music Studios off the ground and running full steam ahead, I can get back to making another CD...the well overdue "Lost and Found"!! SO, don't think that I'm going off into the sunset to retire from playing. I am going to build this fantastic and inspiring school AND continue where I left off with "Terrors". Of course, my life has been very good since then, so expect the lyrical content to be a little less "heavy"!! The music, however, is going to be much more adventurous! Ha ha!

A lot of folks have been asking me about my future with Cosmosquad. Well, as far as I'm concerned, I'd love to remain a member of the band. With how infrequently the group actually works, I think we could work it out. However, Shane and Jeff have spent most of their time in Cosmosquad with a bass player living in a different state. That's hardly something they want to continue, and I can hardly blame them. They want to write a new CD, and they want to get someone in to write as a trio. I was hoping we could get something in the can before I left, but we were all pretty busy with our other work. Plus, I will be completely focused on Absolute Music Studios , and will be unable to do any touring or recording for at least the remainder of 2009. So, they are going to carry on as a duo and see about working with other players. This doesn't mean that I'll never play with them again in C-Squad or any other situations. In fact, we just recorded the musical examples for my first ever instructional book, Progressive Rock Bass, which is being published by Hal Leonard! They will certainly be involved with future Maloney solo recordings, as I think they are two of the most inspired players on earth. As for C-Squad, if they need me and I'm able, we will slay the earth once again!!!

So I'm relocating my operations to Jupiter, Florida, starting a music school and what else? Oh yeah...I got engaged on my birthday! I have truly met the woman of my dreams, and I've decided to show the world that I actually have half a brain and asked her to share her life with me. For those of you who have followed the ups and downs of my love life (just read my lyrics for insight), you know that it's a pretty big deal for me to go down this road. However, I feel truly lucky and blessed to have such an amazing and beautiful woman who TRULY understands me and loves me for who I am who wants to live her life with me. As you can see, this is truly a fantastic and blessed time in my life!!

My lady has also been in LA for 16 years and is ready for a big change and move to Florida. She is not only my partner in life but in Absolute Music Studios as well. She designed the whole website and is handling most of the promotion of the school. Not only that, but she sings like a bird and plays a mean piano! We're both going to have a blast with putting this school together and getting people in that area excited about playing music!!

All right...enough of all this gushing! It's not really like me, but if you are actually reading this, it means you're interested and that means a lot to me. Thanks for all the support over the years, and I promise to reward you with some really great new music soon. I'll also make sure that it's very inexpensive to get, since you've been waiting so long. All my best to you, and I'll chat with you soon.
